Located just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Madrid, this historic countryside hotel is surrounded by open landscapes, forests, mountains, and the peaceful sound of the nearby Río Vadillo.

El Molino de La Ferrería is a historic building with over a century of history. Originally, the site operated as an old iron forge powered by the water of the Río Vadillo, before later becoming one of the most important flour mills in the surrounding area. After a full restoration, it reopened in 1999 as a countryside hotel and restaurant, preserving its historical character while becoming a welcoming rural retreat.
Today, it remains a place strongly connected to its natural environment, combining history, sustainability, and the peaceful rhythm of rural Spain. The hotel places emphasis on environmental care, local activity, and sustainable practices, including ecological pellet heating and support for nearby resources and services.
Hotel facilities
El Molino de La Ferrería combines historic charm with modern comfort, creating a warm and intimate setting ideal for immersion experiences. The hotel features 12 rooms with private bathrooms, distributed between the historic Molino building and the Garden building, along with free WiFi, spacious common areas, a meeting room with audiovisual equipment, and a large riverside garden of over 1,000 m² surrounded by nature. Guests can also enjoy traditional local cuisine, outdoor spaces for walks and informal conversations, making it especially well suited for small-group stays focused on connection, comfort, and shared experiences.
Walks and excursions
One of the greatest advantages of El Molino de La Ferrería is its peaceful location in the Sierra de Ayllón, surrounded by nature and open landscapes. Its setting by the Río Vadillo, close to Riaza and traditional rural surroundings, offers an ideal environment for walks, conversation, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area as part of the immersion experience.
How to get there
We will be providing bus/coach transport from Madrid to the venue. The journey time is 1 hour. The Spanish volunteers will be travelling with you and will be eager to begin talking your ear, in Spanish of course! The meeting point is located near our main headquarters in Madrid and the bus departs on the first day of the program.
On the last day before sadly leaving the program, the bus will be scheduled to leave around 15:00 hours, so you’ll arrive back to Madrid at about 16:00h. You would have to book your travel back home no earlier than 18:00h (train) or 19:00h (airplane). (Note: This information is subject to change.
